Aquarium and college team up to celebrate the oyster

Newport, Oregon— The Oregon Coast Aquarium and the Oregon Coast Community College Foundation (OCCCF) established a new partnership this year for the 13th annual Oyster Cloyster.  Under this new partnership, proceeds from the event will benefit both organizations equally.
Oyster Cloyster brings chefs and food enthusiasts together for a celebration of the oyster, an iconic symbol of the fishing and aquaculture industries in the region. A variety of delectable food sourced from the land and sea will be available for guests to enjoy along with craft beer provided by Rogue Ales and regional wines.
The event includes a cooking competition, where up to 15 chefs vie for awards judged by professionals as well as the coveted people’s choice award. All proceeds benefit the Aquarium Science Program at the Oregon Coast Community College (OCCC) and the Oregon Coast Aquarium.
The OCCCF and the College’s Aquarium Science Program successfully established Oyster Cloyster’s reputation as a popular event. The decision to partner with the Aquarium offered marketing expertise and tremendous membership support beyond Lincoln County.
Carrie Lewis, President/CEO of the Aquarium, explained the Aquarium’s decision to partner with OCCCF on Oyster Cloyster when she said, “The Aquarium has been honored to host Oyster Cloyster for the past 12 years and is excited to start its new role as partner for the event which will now benefit both local aquarium science students and the Aquarium’s programs.”
The OCCC Interim President, Bruce Koike fully supported the partnership as well, “This year’s Oyster Cloyster reflects the collaborative nature of our coastal community and of the two partnering organizations. This event will have a broader impact by benefitting Aquarium and college programs and the individuals who are served. The November 2 event promises to be a terrific experience.”
The Oyster Cloyster will be held on Saturday, November 2, at the Oregon Coast Aquarium from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.
Event tickets sell out quickly and are $75 per person or $65 for Aquarium members. Pearl-level admission, which includes complimentary drink tickets and an exclusive gift, is offered for $350 per couple. A raffle will also be held at the event to support student scholarships for the Lois Rahkonen Memorial Aquarium Science Student Internship Fund.
