Book proposes ideas for sustainable living

Author
In, “To Have Borne Witness: Memories and observations regarding human population and species loss” artist and environmentalist Barry Cogswell tackles the pressing issues of the ecological damage humankind is causing.
In this book, Cogswell raises awareness of today’s burgeoning human population and unsustainable economic practices–-practices that have resulted in massive reductions in wildlife numbers. In the final two chapters, he proposes some ideas on how everyone might live more responsibly and sustainably while enjoying desirable and satisfying lives.
“To Have Borne Witness” began as a personal letter that Cogswell wrote for his children but it gradually developed into a relevant response to his observations of the widespread ecological damage currently taking place in the world. It is an incisive work of non-fiction that features some autobiographical elements which the author uses to illustrate his points and observations.
“My book tells of the great damage that our unregulated free trade capitalist economy and our over-indulgence in meaningless consumerism are doing to our globe’s environment,” Cogswell says. “I believe my voice rings true and hope that readers are concerned about the harm we are doing to our planet and our home.”
