Cal Scott and guests to perform

Veteran Portland singer-songwriters Cal Scott (Trail Band, Kevin Burke) and Richard Moore (The Wombats) welcome Matty Charles, Gary Furlow and Avery Hill to the second anniversary of their bimonthly circle at 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 5  at O’Connor’s Vault in Multnomah Village.
Matty Charles mattycharlesmusic.com/sounds like somebody you’re sorry you missed back in the sixties, but he belongs to a much younger generation.  He combines a world-weary baritone with twenty-first century wit.
Gary Furlow garyfurlow.com/ is another smooth talker in the low registers.  He can take you to his hometown, New Orleans and back, in the matter of a breath between phrases. He sings his steamy gulf-simmered stories like he was there when it all went down, which he probably was.
Avery Hill www.averyhilltunes.com/  is described as an “emerging” singer-songwriter, but she’s clearly left behind whatever she emerged from, and has taken flight as one of the busiest performers on the Portland folk scene.  Think millennial Joni Mitchell with an old soul.  Got it?
The regulars will be Cal Scott, jack-of-many-genres who writes and performs with The Trail Band and Kevin Burke, and the word-witty and tunewise Richard Moore, likely to share a few scenes from “Rain,” his musical-in-the-works about Portland.
Tickets are $12 in advance from
songwritersaugust5.brownpapertickets.com or $15 at the door.
