Lava Lake is a tranquil body of water surrounded by Mount Bachelor and the Three Sisters mountains in Central Oregon.
The lake is usually offers excellent trout fishing and calmer afternoon winds on its west side for kayakers, paddle boarders and canoeists. There is also a small store, campgrounds and Little Lava Lake nearby. The campground and Deschutes National Forest are currently closed at least through May 8 as a result of the COVID-19.
Lava Lake was formed by ancient lava flows and is fed by subsurface springs located in the northeast corner of the lake.
