Oregon Music Hall of Famer Gary Ogan  http://garyogan.com made his mark with regional hits in the 70s and collaborations with industry giants like Leon Russell in the 80s. In this ninth show of the series at O’Connor’s, Gary brings back the tight new band he introduced in May to help bring some of his patented studio flourishes to a live audience.
“It was a no-brainer to bring the band back,” Gary said, “Playing with these three guys is like having the fun meter constantly cranked to 11.  From my lead guitarist, Mike Doolin, to my rhythm section of Michael Braun (drums) and Dave Captein (bass), they continually amaze me with their ability to deliver all the varied colorings I look for when bringing my music to a live audience.  I really couldn’t be happier with this opportunity to bring the band back to O’Connor’s for another show.
“Regarding our newest member, young Michael Braun, I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve played with drummers who actually did it for me.  There are plenty of really perfectly adequate pounders out there but the ones that absolutely and consistently lift the level of quality in a song and sort of parade the song in front of you are a rare breed.
I consider Michael Braun one of those few.  He worked from 1990 to 2010 as Hall & Oates’ drummer, and before that he split his time between recording and touring with artists like Billy Joel, Michael McDonald, Kenny Loggins, KT Tunstall, Carly Simon, and the list goes on.  The first few times I got together to play with Mr. Braun it was just the two of us, and I couldn’t help but to continually burst out laughing I was so pleased.  Unsolicited gut laughing is always a good sign with me and drummers.  Enough about the new kid.  The other two guys, Mike Doolin and Dave Captein are Portland institutions.  They each play in more bands than anyone (including them) can keep track of.
I try not to think about where their loyalties are, but I like to project that they’re all with me.  Mike Doolin is a world-renowned luthier and artist in his own right, has his own ragingly successful house concert series, and enjoys working out of his home studio.  Dave Captein doubles as a ventriloquist and is threatening to move to the big apple to busk with his side-kick “Zero.”  Beyond that, he Dave is probably best known for his longstanding working relationship with local favorite, Tom Grant.”
