He loved Fife

Fife, WA – Long time City Councilmember Richard (Dick) Godwin, who passed away in February at his Fife home, served on Fife City Council since 2004 and lived in Fife for over 40 years.
As a young man Dick served with distinction in the United States Navy. After returning from service in Vietnam, Dick went on to raise a family in Fife.  He pursued a career for the phone company Quest as one of their most capable technicians and troubleshooters and served as the President of the Communication Workers Union for 15 years.
His term on Council was best represented by his youth program advocacy, protecting community property rights, and his passion for ensuring that Fife residents received good value for their tax dollars.  He also volunteered on the Fife Police Department Reserve Board, Rainier Communications Commission Board, and the Association of Washington Cities-Legislative Committee.
Dick might be best known to the community as the face of the Fife Daffodil Float.  For years he worked tirelessly to design, construct, and drive the iconic Daffodil Float for the residents and students of Fife.
Fife Mayor Rob Cerqui noted Councilmember Godwin’s passing was an unexpected and unfortunate blow to the community. “I can’t think of anyone more dedicated and concerned about his community and environment.  You knew he had the best of intentions for his City,” said Mayor Cerqui.
“Dick loved Fife and was a strong advocate for environmental restoration,” said Fife Mayor Rob Cerqui adding that “the restoration of Wapato Creek which borders the future BrookvilleGardensCommunityPark, to commence construction later this year, is part of Dick’s legacy of service to this community.”
