Historic Fort Worden Offers New Services, Dining

Last weekend I spent a rollicking “Girls’ Weekend” with seven other women in Port Townsend. We rented the Admiral’s House for one night for $500 during the Kinetic Boat Race weekend. We enjoyed gorgeous weather and had a total hoot staying in the wonderful, 100+-year-old officers’ home within easy walking distance to the beaches and embattlements.fort-worden-state-park-in-port-townsend-washington
One of our coolest discoveries was that Fort Worden State Park has added some really sweet amenities. Not only does it offer yoga and dance at Madrona MindBody, historic museum collections and events at Centrum and the Marine Science Center, it has added three new options for indulging in food and beverages.
First of all, the Commons Café, located in the center campus building 200, provides absolutely amazingly delicious-looking treats from chocolate cake to die for to cupcakes as big as a giant grapefruit. The lunch special of a chicken-pumpkin soup, homemade bread, salad and goodie made our mouths water and its early morning coffee hit the spot.
In the same building, the Servery offers breakfast, lunch and dinner cafeteria style service for groups and guests. And down on the beach across from the pier, checkout The Cable House Canteen. It provides burgers, and beach food along with a few groceries, snacks supplies and gifts and toys.
So, next time you escape to Port Townsend, head over to Fort Worden for a piece of cake and a cup of coffee before playing on or fishing at the beach.
