Home Improvements That Will Help You Spend More Time Outdoors

Spending time outside is an important part of your physical and mental health. But, with a busy life, it can be hard to find the time or the energy to drag yourself out of the house. If you want to spend some more time outside, you could consider investing in these home improvements. These additions will entice you to leave the couch and go play or relax in your beautiful yard.

Install a Pool

Installing a pool is no small venture. In fact, it is one that you should not try unless you are a professional. There are many kinds of pools that you can choose from. If you have a small yard, you may want to get a small wading pool or an infinity pool. If you have a larger yard, you can go ahead and install a pool with a deep-end and a diving board. Before you decide on the pool, you may want to consider what type of water you want in it. Do you want chlorinated? Or do you want salt-water? There are pros and cons to both, so think it through carefully.

Clear Out the Landscape

It can be a little difficult to spend time outside if you have a cluttered backyard. By spending the time to clear out the landscape, you’ll open a lot of space that you can play in or develop for other purposes. If your yard is cluttered with junk, you may want to hire a junk-hauling company to come take it away. If you prefer to do it yourself, borrow a trailer and load it up with things to take to the dump. If your yard is cluttered with plant-life you can either choose to go to work with a shovel or hire a landscaping company.

Create a Patio

It’s a little difficult to host parties or grill outdoors without a nice surface to set up chairs, tables, and cooking equipment. By building yourself a patio you can give yourself a versatile place for gatherings. Patios can be made of several different types of materials. Most commonly they are made from concrete. If you go for a concrete patio, you’ll enjoy the benefits of a uniform surface that is easy to clean. If you want something a little more aesthetically pleasing, you could install a cobblestone patio or stone tile patio.

Build a Deck

A deck tends to be different from a patio in that it is generally made from wood. Deck’s also don’t need to be on the ground level. You can build a deck onto your house that leads out from the second level of your home. Many people prefer decks because of the natural look of wood. Like a patio, there are many things you can set up on a deck. You can install a kitchen on your deck and enjoy cooking and eating while outside. You can also install a hot-tub. If you do, just make sure that you build your deck to be strong enough to support the weight.

Install Yard Lighting

Having a party outside on a warm night can be a lot of fun. However, if your yard doesn’t have nice lighting, it doesn’t make for a very appealing or welcoming atmosphere. There are several ways to add lighting to your yard. One way is to mount lights onto the walls of your home that project light across the yard. However, since the light comes from one side, this tends to cause weird shadows. A better option could be to suspend strings of lights over your yard. These lights can be illuminating and very beautiful. Other options include decorative lampposts and garden lights.

Set Up a Pickleball Court

Pickleball is a great sport for any age. Pickleball is like a cross between table-tennis and real tennis. The court is about 1/3 to 1/4 the size of a regulation size tennis court. Due to its small court size, even the elderly can often enjoy a good game. The other benefit of its small court size is that you can fit one in a small yard. All you need to do is flatten out a section of your lawn large enough for the court. Then you can lay down whichever material you choose to use for your court base. After that, you just need to install a net, grab a few paddles, get some friends, and you are ready to start playing!

Build a Garden

If you are looking for something that will reward your hard work, building a garden can be a great way to go. If you want to build a garden, the first thing you should do is pick an area and clear it of all plant-life. Depending on the type of soil that you have, you may need to put down some topsoil. After that, you might want to consider building a small wall around the garden to help keep critters out of it. Be sure to spend some time learning about what crops grow best in your area. If you do, you’ll be able to enjoy a rich harvest at the end of all your labors.

Install a Firepit

Humans have gathered around fires for generations. Even in present times, when we don’t need fires for warmth, we still enjoy doing it. Something about sitting around a warm fire and sharing some food really does help people open up and talk to each other. You can use the firepit to help create memories with your family which will strengthen your familial bond. You can also use it during parties so that people can have a place to gather and chat with one another. If you don’t like the idea of cleaning up after a wood fire pit, you can always have a gas fire pit installed

Spending some time sprucing up your backyard can pay great dividends. You’ll really enjoy basking in the sun or staying out on cool nights either spending time with others or just by yourself. If you choose to do any of these projects yourself, just make sure that you don’t bite off more than you can chew. You don’t want to leave any of these projects unfinished.
