Sauvie Island Farms Welcomes Visitors this Fall

Sauvie Island, originally Wapato Island, is approximately 10 miles north of Portland, Oregon. It is the largest island in the Columbia River and one of the largest islands in the U.S. Located at the junction of the Columbia River to the east, Willamette River to the south and Multnomah Channel to the west, the island’s northern half is a wildlife refuge and the southern half is predominantly rural farmland with small residential enclaves. Access to the island is by the Sauvie Island Bridge on Highway 30.
One of the highlights of the island is Sauvie Island Farms, owned and operated by David and Vicki Egger.  They grow berries, peaches, sweet corn, flowers, pumpkins, and more. Along with these crops that we offer for u-pick, we also grow cabbage, cucumbers, green beans, sweet corn, pumpkins, wheat and more for the wholesale and cannery markets.
They are the third generation to farm on Sauvie Island.  David’s dad, Jerry, started u-pick strawberries on the Island in the ’60’s.  We hope that you will help us continue this family tradition by coming to our farm and picking your own  ‘fresh from the field’ fruit and veggies!!
For current information about what is ‘in-season’ and the crops we have available for you to pick, call Sauvie Island Farms @ 503-621-3988
