Staycation or Vacation: Visit Seattle’s Top Attractions – Part I

By Leslee Jaquette
Would you believe that until recently I had never toured one of Seattle’s premier attractions – The future of Flight Aviation Center & Boeing Tour?
That’s right. That’s like living a block from the beach and never building a sandcastle or walking barefoot in the sand!
So, lest we forget, there are tons of wonders to explore in our own Northwest backyard. In the next few blogs, let’s take a look at some of Seattle’s top attractions. Whether you live in Bellevue or Eugene, hopefully, these short descriptions will inspire you this summer to get out and experience the Emerald City.
Future of Flight Aviation Center & Boeing Tour
This flight and Boeing tour experience is located about 25 miles north of Seattle. It is the ONLY public tour of a commercial jet assembly in North America. Checkout the 28,000 square-foot Aviation Center Gallery, then take the 90-minute tour of the Boeing plant where you can see 747s or 787s being assembled before your eyes. Visit www.futureofflight.org.
Public Market Tours
Everyone loves the smells, sights and energy of the Pike Place Market in Downtown Seattle. More than 100 years old, this is the real McCoy of street markets. It’s fun to move like part of a wave as the crowd pulses through the narrow aisles or explore the lower levels of funky shops and treasures. Go to www.PublicMarketTours.com
Ride the Ducks
Hop aboard Ride the Ducks amphibious craft for an unusual but fitting tour of the water and land of Seattle. These tours are known for providing wacky tidbits of info about early Seattle and drive straight into the lake! Visit www.ridetheducksofseattle.com
Seattle Aquarium
While you are downtown, save energy for a walk on the waterfront and time to visit the Seattle Aquarium. All ages love to watch the playful sea otters, graceful octopus, moon jellies and Puget Sound sea creatures and watch daily diver shows in the Window on Washington Waters’ 120,000-gallon exhibit. Last entry at 5 p.m., closes at 6 p.m. www.SeattleAquarium.org
