Vancouver, WA – Clark County’s Aging Readiness Plan has been selected for an Award of Excellence from the American Planning Association.
The plan, adopted by the Board of County Commissioners in February 2012, was recognized by a jury of professionals in the Special Focus Planning Initiative – Senior Livability category.
The award will be announced in April during the annual meeting of the American Planning Association’s County Planning Division.
In 2010 and 2011, the volunteer Aging Readiness Task Force identified how the community can increase and improve conditions and opportunities for people who want to remain in Clark County as they age. The Aging Readiness Plan, which assessed the county’s ability to serve as a home for aging residents, provides for access to housing, transportation, recreation, lifestyle choices, supportive services and civic/social engagement. The plan was developed with extensive community conversations, and has become a catalyst for change in the region.
Subsequently, the Board appointed the Commission on Aging, an advocacy panel that will provide leadership in addressing needs of the aging population while the county puts the plan’s 91 strategies in place.
