Fairbanks Winter Guide available for free

Fairbanks, Alaska (AK) – The 2013-2014 Fairbanks Winter Guide is now available for free.
The 32-page full-color booklet with winter activity listings and an action-packed events calendar offers an informative, yet lighthearted view of winter in Alaska’s Interior and the Arctic. Primarily because aurora borealis viewing is commonplace here, Fairbanks was named #2 of the top ten destinations to visit in the United States in 2013 by Lonely Planet, the leading travel guidebook publisher and website. Just north of Fairbanks, Chena Hot Springs Resort/Chena River State Recreation Area, was selected as one of the “Ten Best 2013 Winter Trips” worldwide by National Geographic, and the Los Angeles Times’ travel columnist Christopher Reynolds named Fairbanks one of the top ten places worldwide he would like to visit in 2013.  This publicity led to strong public interest and as a result more pages were dedicated to the aurora borealis in this guide.
At 64 degrees latitude, Fairbanks is one of the best places on earth to see the aurora borealis, experience the sport of dog mushing and view outdoor ice sculptures. This trio of events make the winter season a travelers’ snowy paradise.
The new Winter Guide was designed to help plan vacations during the winter season. The event section provides current information about winter activities, celebrations and sporting events. The diverse art scene in Fairbanks includes musical and dramatic performances, Alaska Native cultural events, art galleries and museum exhibits. Other outdoor action, such as skiing, ice skating, snowmobiling, snow shoeing, ice fishing, curling, tubing and ice hockey are also covered. The guide invites visitors to mush a team of huskies across the wilderness, view three ton pieces of ice being turned into works of art, journey above the Arctic Circle, visit Santa in North Pole and delight in the warmth of an Alaskan hot spring at the end of an adventure filled day.
